Shihan Manoj K S is the founder and national representative of Bodhidharma JKS India and direct member of Japan Karate Shoto Renmei, Tokio Japan. He is entitled as an accomplished martial artist with proven skills in Karate (Shotokan and Okinawan Goju-Ryu), Kick Boxing, Kobu-do and Kalari.
Shihan Manoj won rank 5th DAN in Karate at the age of 36 and 3rd DAN at 30 in Kobu-do, which is a remarkable progression in his career. Shihan also has a deep interest and passion for Kalari too.
Shihan Manoj holds many important positions such as Official examiner of JKS Tokio, Kumite Judge of AKF and National Chief of Matayoshi Kobu-Do (Okinawa) which is affiliated to Academy of International Kobu-do Kyo Kai headquartered in France. His latest performance was at JKS Sri Lanka Karate Championship where he won the gold medal in Kata.
Shihan began his martial arts journey at the age of 15. As a boy he had a soft spot for the adventure comic strip “phantom”, which inspired him and led him into the Martial arts training hall. He has had the privilege of studying and practicing under Sensei Bony Roberts (late), Father of Kerala Karate and Sri Lankan Association President of Black Belt Karate International.
In Kalari, Suvraadan Gurukal was his role model and mentor at the Veda academy.
Shihan began to adhere to the mental and spiritual aspects of martial arts and in the year of 1986 he won his first competition at Thrissur. He then achieved an unmatched tournament success in 1992, 1993, 1994 by becoming the National Champion in Kobu-do Tournament which held in Calicut and Tirur .
In 1987, he won the black belt from Ricky Warm Shekhar, Chief of International Karate Academy based in Malaysia. He had the opportunity to learn from prominent martial artists, which helped him receive both mental and physical training. Shihan travelled to different parts of the country and learned classical lessons of Martial arts, and it wasn’t long before he found himself as an instructor. In 1982 he started training students and he enjoys working out and is passionate about sharing martial arts lessons with them.
Bodhidharma JKS India
In 1984, Shihan Manoj established Bodhidharma JKS India, a well-known martial arts study center based in Njamanghat, Thrissur. The study center is affiliated to Japan Karate Shoto Renmei (Tokio Japan), Academy of International Kobu-do Kyo Kai, (HQ France). Till date Bodhidharma JKS India has tutored more than 5000 students and now has branches across Sharjah, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Um AL Quien. The Academy has membership in KAI (Karate Association of India).
He worked together with renowned martial artists Shihan Masao Kagawa, Shihan Zenei Oshiro, Shihan Ishikawa, Shihan Yamaguchi, Sensei Masayoshi Kagawa, Sensei Nishiyama and Shimabakru to spread Shokotan karate and Okinawan Goju-Ryu throughout the country.

To sharpen his martial arts skills, he has travelled overseas and attended seminars of Shihan Masao Kagawa, Ishikawa and Yamaguchi in Japan, Sensei Kamal in the Middle East and Sensei Zenei Oshiro in France. He travelled overseas to participate in martial art tournaments including both nationals and internationals.
In 2007, Shihan witnessed the JKS World Tournament and Funakoshi’s 50th Anniversary Seminar in Japan. He also attended JKS seminars in the years 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
His latest journey was to France & Dubai in 2015 and latest performance was at JKS Sri Lanka Karate Championship where he won the gold medal in Kata.
